I can recommend Meloni's "Managing Up". In my view it's mostly about your ability to influence that person in the corner office. If you try to go over their head or be passive-aggressive about it, you'll only be shooting yourself in the foot. Saving Changes...
Is this man your line Manager! if he is making life difficult for the team he is not worthy of this position, but do remember that no one is indispensable not even this person. Many Managers think they are indispensable often behave in ways that are contrary to their organization's success. Their behaviour tells a story, they feel that without them, their organization or department would fail miserably they arrogant, rude and trust no one. The man in the corner office has a manager too, if staff are unhappy collectively something can be done about it - dont do it on your own as you will be singled out, I have seen this many times in organisations where the Manager is supported by other Managers, but collectively when staff complain it cannot be swept under the carpet.

And by the way, these type of people cannot be influenced as they have a huge ego they are in fact unmanageable! Ensure you do your work well, stay out of office politics always remain with a professional outlook, no one can knock you down. Saving Changes...
