I am pursuing a MSc in Project Management and currently I am on the trajectory of selecting a topic for my Research Proposal academic paper however, I am looking at the gap that affected my country during the Covid-19 Pandemic which was the the "Adverse Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Construction Projects". Can anyone share there thoughts on this please.

Shivram -

My guess is that this topic has been researched by other academics over the past year but as a Masters degree doesn't have to be unique, this should be feasible and you could certainly try to differentiate your research by focusing on a specific geographic region or construction segment (e.g. residential vs commercial).

What would be interesting is to understand what the companies whose projects were the least impacted did as compared with those who were heavily impacted...

It can be a good topic. You should focus on its future application, though. You better speak with your professor to see what he thinks about its future applications and the direction of your research.

My thought is the same as Abolfazi Yousefi Darestani - lessons learned. I would look at it from a risk perspective. How has the COVID 19 experience prepared us to best deal with Known Unknowns in terms of identification, probability, impact, mitigation and allowances. The evolution of the risk - how it changed as more information became available - and the impact of this information evolution. What responses worked, what did not.

Big topic.

This is a great topic for a Masters Thesis, however, I suggest you not only talk about the gap but how to resolve it and avoid it in the future under similar adverse condition. You can propose some innovative ideas combined with the use of technology which will increase productivity, help in trades shortage and so on.

Good Luck.

I think it's time for companies to revisit the Just-In-Time strategy since one of the primary risks was the availability of physical resources to execute project tasks.

Yes but don’t keep the whole subject revolving around this risk. Even though it is a risk, it is still beneficial for items other than long lead ones so maybe the strategy for short lead items, should be dealt with by keeping minimum stock and the rest JIT combined with technology like RFID to track minimum stock.

Management of inventories, stores and warehouses can quickly become an additional activity and cost to the project. Add that to the increased cost of the limited resources themselves and things get expensive real quick.

Agreed, the supply shortages presented a myriad of problems for our construction projects - everything from scheduling to storage/staging, and billing processes.
Additionally, dealing with entire crews being out with covid has added to the challenge.
