I am looking for an alternative to MS Project. I used about 20% of the functions in MS Project and need to find a MAC Project Plan software. I am looking for something that has task and subtasks, gantt charts, resource names, critical path, milestones and dependencies. Would appreciate your input as I am only 7 days into using a MAC and haven't a clue what to use.

I use Merlin (http://www.projectwizards.net/en/merlin/) primarily. I also use Omniplan (http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omniplan/). Both a pretty good a the core PM functionality, and both can read Microsoft Project files pretty easily. I think both have trial version available, so I would pick one and try it out.

Thank you so much for the advice, I will take a look at both. Do you prefer one over the other?

Debby: There are lots of software packages out there for the Mac. Depending upon your requirements, you may want to consider using an online planner as well, particularly if you need to share plans and information with team members, sponsors and clients. We'll posting information and reviews in the new 'Organizational Project Management' department in the coming weeks and months.

Another tool to look at is SharedPlan, which is available for both the Mac and Windows environments. I have only seen cursory information so far, so I can't go so far as to recommend it, but it seems worth a look.

Good luck!

I use a web-based project management tool called AtTask. It recently won the CODiE award for "Best Project Management Solution" for the third year in a row. It has the features you mentioned and is very user friendly. If you're looking for something good for the Mac, then you'll be pleased to know that Apple themselves have turned to AtTask. Check it out here: http://www.attask.com/topics/work-management
