Best tool for a large enterprise project

We are starting a large enterprise project and I need a tool that will help me with the planning and see the big picture. The planning will involve organizing tasks by system/process (waterfall) and set dependencies but they execution will most likely be in short sprints. Not sure if this makes sense but wondering if you have a suggestion for a tool that lets you plan at a large scale and execute in short iterations? I'm familiar with MS Project but not sure if it is the best tool for this? Thank you!

It is pretty easy to do using Primavera, at least if you have a skilled user. It is successfully used on very large projects with a combination of delivery frameworks with many systems and dependencies.

Your ability to link strings of subtasks to the higher level schedules is mostly limited by experience and/or creativity. Sometimes it is still easier to manage the day-to-day tasks outside of the tool for flexibility and less administrative overhead. Part of the trick to managing the very large plans, is what level of detail to manage in the master scheduling tool vs. simple and flexible tools for the sub-teams to manage daily work.

Planview is a good option, since this software offers you the possibility of creating a Gantt Chart, and link the main tasks with an agile board (to detail the sprints), allowing you to manage the project in a hybrid manner.

How will the tool be used? Do you just need a scheduling tool, or do you need to create reports from it, as well? Will people be updating their own tasks, or will you managing status updates in the tool?

I'm not familiar with Primavera. I like how Project (desktop version) handles sprints and can include them in a traditional project, but it's not great for collaborating or OOTB reports. There are a lot of online tools that CAN do what you're asking about, but some are easier to use, some are easier to configure, and pricing plans can vary significantly.

If you can define the who, how, and what you want from a tool, it will be easier to find the best tool for your needs.

Thank you all for your input and good suggestions. Aaron, I will be the primary user and basic reporting should be fine. In addition to scheduling, I would like to have field(s) to document notes, attachments, etc. for each work item. Thanks again!

Our company uses and partners with monday.com. We use sprints to organize our daily tasks and have them visible to other team members. Your planning and the overall waterfall process of linking dependencies to short term tasks is easily done. Message me if you need any further assistance.
