I am trying my hand on MS Project 98. I find it fascinating except for a problem in Time Over-run. It calculates time over-runs by deducting BCWP from BCWS.
At 100% completion, the BCWP would always be equal to BCWS and the difference would be zero. In other words, the time overruns would be NONE. Supposing a project was completed in 4 weeks as against its scheduled completion of 3 weeks, this indicates a delay of one week. If the same data were fed to MS Project, the SV would be ZERO.
In Excel, I can work out the time over-run by deducting BCWP in days from Actual Days. Obviously, BCWP in term of days, at 100% completion, would be 18 days (3 weeks x 6 days/week), while four weeks or 24 days have gone by, showing a time over-run of 6 days.
