Be Good To Yourself

Work can consume you. It can be difficult to disconnect and find time to take care of yourself. What types of things do you do to take care of yourself and your mental health, physical health, and emotional health?

Remember to be good to yourself, even Superman sleeps. 🦸‍♂️

It's good to disconnect from work with relaxing activities like sharing with family, practicing a sport, walking, watching movies, etc.

Those are great ideas. I think that I am going to have to set a time that is in my schedule devoted to disconnecting and having some fun.

While I have some hobbies that help me to disengage, reading a good book is remarkably effective.

If I don't shut out work, the grocery list, and all the other things spinning in my head some days, I can't follow the story so to me it is practicing how to focus, and I love a good story.

It does help if you can purposefully plan time dedicated to Project Me. It's much easier to put off if you don't, and if you put it off too much, your body will force you to rest in a much less pleasant way than enjoying a book or a hobby.

Keith,
I hope you can set a time that will work well and that you can continue to show up and care for yourself. I struggle to disconnect. I tell myself, "Just one more minute". Then, the day is gone.

This is a very important question, Angela.

Personally, I have struggled finding balance among my work, health and relationship needs. My plan this year is to embark on an outdoor event, especially field trips, once every month. It's not an easy approach especially in this era of 'work-from-home', but certainly great health benefits can be attained this way.

In addition to taking care of my physical and mental health, I get a lot of my energy from Toastmasters. I've joined Toastmasters fifteen years ago and I still come back to learn and grow.

How much time do you have, Angela? :)

The really short answer is to check out their website: toastmasters.org.

The short answer is that Toastmasters is an international non-profit educational organization that helps its members develop leadership and communication skills. This is done through local clubs that offer a learning environment for their members.

If you are interested in my long answer, send me a message and I will gladly spend hours telling you all about it.
