Mindfulness is defined as the basic human ability to be fully present. Have you ever tried to stop everything and feel where you are now? What are you feeling? Why are you there?
Have you ever just enjoyed the calm, the quiet, and felt yourself breathing?
I tried a breathing exercise with a coworker and realized that I have been breathing all wrong. Sounds crazy, I know. However, afterward, I was so calm. If you knew me, then you would know what a challenge that was to get me to feel totally calm.

I tried it once and it felt good but been trying to do it again since then - Not easy, at least for me :D

It was not easy for me either. After, I felt like I could float away. I did not feel grounded. The leader of the exercise said that the next time I tried it, I should keep my feet on the floor and my eyes open.

When I used to commute to work on the train, I'd use Maria Gonzalez's guided audio mindfulness recordings from her book Mindful Leadership. Very helpful at calming and centering me, but like everything else, you have to do it regularly to build your muscle memory...

I learned about mindfulness through a continuing education university course. It walked us through yoga, journaling and meditation exercises and workshops. I also learned some mindfulness through Therapeutic Touch® including breathing and centering. I find breathing alone is a great way to bring myself back into the now.
