It looks like my latest article in the PMO department is generating some discussions among members. What do you think? - http://www.gantthead.com/content/articles/265806.cfm

Andy, would it be better if you could give a short summary and rephrase the question here to give others a clearer view on what to be discussed?

Wai Mun Koo,

Thanks for the reply! In the article I linked to I suggested that not all PMOs fully leveraged their positions to add value to project communications - they were little more than pass through agents for status reports from PMs to stakeholders. I have seen a shockingly large number of PMOs who felt that there main reporting function was simply to ensure consistent formatting and (to me) that's truly scary.

There have been a number of replies and some really thoughtful arguments so just thought that I would bring the topic to the wider discussion forum and see if there were some other opinions.

PMOs have a great opportunity to impact project communications. One of the pieces of feedback I had about my book, Social Media for Project Managers, was that it didn't cover the role of the PMO and the position that that can have in deploying social media tools across the project management arena. I wonder if any PMOs are championing the role of social media tools for project communications.
