Government processes are would be good to apply to private industry?

There is lots of bureacracy and rigor in governement processes and I find this applies as well in privates businesses.

I would say yes there is. Anyways, you should see this from government standpoint as well.

Which government processes?

My limited exposure to it makes me think government processes are not sustainably scalable and do not allow for flexibility to adjust your approach to your circumstances. To Rami's point, private companies can be the same.

Which branch of government?

I've only worked with the VA. The people were good to work with, but their processes made some projects take longer than needed. I've met some PMs that work with defense contractors. The rigor and rigidity they have to deal with makes more sense.

The tricky part with government processes is they have to stand the test of transparency. Everything you do has to be above board.

Although many government processes are full of bureaucracy, there are processes you probably use currently that were born in the government sector. EVM, PERT and the WBS concept for example, all came from the US Department of Defense. Now they are frequently considered PM best practices.
