How would understanding a team members motivation help a PM encourage collaboration for the benefit of a project?

By understanding a team’s motivation, it provides greater performance in reaching the goals which are sought from collaborating successfully. With a sense of belonging, appreciation and recognition and removing barriers, such as hygiene factors, which could include providing the correct tools, the appropriate environment conditions, it promotes better working relationships, collaboration and reduces the likelihood of any conflict. There are two levels of motivation at play: the indivdual's motiviation and the team's motivation. Don't presume they are both the same or do the same thing. Please note that the removal of barriers actually increases both types of motivation.
