¿Do you think that the best way to act as a servant leader is to directly remove the impediments that may arise in the project, or to show the project team how to remove them themselves?

Hi, the question you asked us is very interesting.

It would be important for you to tell us if the team members are hired on a body shopping basis or if they are part of the company.

Thomas' opinion makes sense to me.
Is the project manager's main concern the team or the project and the delivery of value?

Leadership is about motivating people recognizing that you can't achieve the objective all by yourself. Motivation is an internal force that propels a person to achieve his/her objectives. Thus a leader needs to make sure that the objective is clearly defined and accepted and that the person being lead accepts that objective as his/her own and sees the benefit of achieving that objective. Basically the benefit has to satisfy a person's needs. Each person has different needs or perceived needs.

Considering the above, a leader cannot select a leadership style and apply it to all persons and situations all the time. To be crude, as with a donkey some need a carrot and some need a stick to apply effort in pulling the wagon. Some prefer challenges, some already have enough challenges on their hands.

As Project Manager your first priority is to effectively deliver the project. Yes staff development, personnel satisfaction, supportive environment, etc., are important but should be looked at through the lens of advancing the project.
