Did anyone notice the cost for recertifications?

I was surprised that I got a late notice to recertify my PMP.
I logged on PMI Global, paid the fee but then I remembered that I never had to pay for recertification.

Now, with three certs, I have to pay $60 for each recert cycle, in addition to my regular PMI Global + Chapter fee.

What does PMI need all these money for?

Andrew -

Recertification was always a paid service - I got my PMP back in 2000 and had to pay it every three years since.

I doubt all of the recertification money goes towards the maintenance costs of the certifications themselves but remember that PMI does a lot of advocacy work and scholarships for research which likely benefit from it.

I do agree that PMI should consider a bulk recertification discount for those with more than one cert. I've got six now (three "classic" and three DA) and the ongoing costs are significant.

Kiron, maybe I should stay quiet because I did not see these recert fees until 2021

I agree with Kiron - In my case, I’ve got eight credentials for recertification.

My major gripe with PMI: It's a for-profit venture. IEEE, and as far as I know every other industry organization, is NOT for-profit. So PMI has to make their money, which creates issues, including the fact that we have to pay for a lot of things that we don't have to pay for elsewhere, and I have no doubt that there exist conflicts of interest, most of which we just don't see. Money rules, unfortunately.

Recertification has not been free since I joined in 2017.
Is there any price increase?

The cost of recertification is no joke. I've got enough alphabet soup after my name that I've relegated several credentials to the education section of my resume. My Prosci and THRIVE certifications are good examples for this. I pursued the training to expand my capabilities as a PM and get access to specific tools, but maintaining the credentials is not needed for my ongoing career goals or employment.

Do you need all 3 of your PMI credentials, or do they build on each other?

For example, once I pass the DAVSC exam I might not renew my DASSM, in the next renewal cycle, and I don't see a point in renewing my DASM.

Since I joined PMI, I have been known the credential renewal system every three years.

As other have indicated, I have always paid for recert, in addition to the yearly dues. I am fortunate that my company pays for all fees as they see the value the cert and the membership brings to the organization. I now have a 2nd cert for DA and agree, there should be some discounted structure for multiple certs.
