Which PMI certification is more aligned with the skills and task of a PMO leader

I would go with the PgMO, David, but only after getting the PMP.

Depends on the nature of the PMO, David. There is no PMI certification geared towards governance-type work, but if the PMO has a focus on agile transformation then something like the DAVSC might be a fit. Or if the PMO is responsible for facilitating the portfolio decision making process, the PfMP might be the right choice.

I'd suggest that a PMP would be "table stakes" if the PMO plays any kind of delivery oversight or support role...

There is a non-PMI credential offered by PMO Global Alliance that I highly recommend.

PfMP could be an adequate option since this credential certifies portfolio management (Ambit that a PMO is most oriented), but PMO Global Alliance credential, mentioned by Rami is also recommended.

It is hard to say since PMI does not have any certificate for that. So, it depends and comes with interpretations.
