Thanks Abolfazl, yes I am looking for a resume. My background has been project management in the hospitality (Event Management and Coordination) but since my intention is to apply for other jobs that are more project management based, I would like to revise my resume to give it a more project management feel. At the moment my resume looks more like a hospitality resume. Also if you can recommend any sites that have good samples, I would be really grateful. thanks again!

I would suggest your résumé line up to scope, schedule, costs and realized benefits. I don't mean just defining your work; I also mean showing your accomplishments in those terms. Was the whole scope of work delivered on time and on budget? What were the benefits of that work: savings, growth, ...?

I suggest the book Winning Resumes by Robin Ryan.

PMs gather so much experience through many projects that a classic chronological resume turns into an autobigraphy which no hiring manager will want to read and analyze to determine if you're a good fit.

The book covers functional and hybrid functional/chronological resumes, as well as how to tailor it to individual job postings, and a focus on condensing it all down to one page. It's not about how to write a resume that you spam to the entire world, but rather how to relate your experience directly to each potential job from the hiring manager's perspective.

Thanks Keith,

I will look into the book and like you say, a chronological resume does sound a bit like an autobiography. I looked at mine many times and it does feel that way.

Thanks again!

Fair warning, Kim. Given my 40-year work history, I've tried functional résumés just to be told to send a chronological one instead.

Wow! There really isn't one size fits all type of resume. I will heed your warning. Thanks again! Kim

I have had that experience as well, but if they're asking for your whole career history, then your resume was noticed and you made it to the short list of applicants. If I'm using a functional resume rather than a combo, then my cover letter will include a statement that I will provide my full work history by request.
