Gaining experience

Hello!

I am in the process of transitioning from the field of education to project management. I am looking for ways to gain hands on experience in all things project management. Even volunteer postings are asking for years of experience. Does anyone know how I may be able to gain experience? I’ve even applied for internships but they are mostly geared toward recent graduates and I am only enrolled in a bootcamp for Technical Project Management through a university. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you! I was hoping someone with a background in education would be able to shed some light on the transition. I will look into knowledge based projects. Your response is greatly appreciated
Wish you all the best.

Whitley,

my colleagues here gave valid advice to see what your Chapter offers, or virtual opportunities in PMI, or looking out for an NGO that needs help in PM. For the last point, you could look out in your area, many people are in need and many NGOs try to offer relief. It will feed your experience account and also your skills in leadership.

One practical tip is to start a projects diary. Record what you are doing, even if they are small steps in the beginning, and ask yourself questions to understand where you want to gain knowledge. And maybe get a mentor.
