Hello everyone, any tips on how to structure work packages and studies that are part of a program with a specific objective? I have only been used to doing WBS for a particular project but not for several projects running in parallel. The focus is more on the structure and explanations,

Thanks for anyone who can help!

I'd suggest you start by reading PMI's standard for work breakdown structures - it is a free download for members.

Besides the resource Kiron mentioned, the PMI Program Management Standard has some info about this and it will give you a good idea about how to establish a Program WBS.

I do agree with Kiron. First, familiarize yourself with WBS standard.

Practically, all work in the program should be covered.

That is for one all components, projects and also non-project work if any. They should have their own WBS, which are leading but you might want to mirror them in key parts that are relevant for other projects to know or for program management to control.

Secondly, I'd expect to see program governance related work, like integrative functions (e.g. cross-project requirements, testing, interfaces, benefits tracking, program risk management, program quality assurance etc) and communication work (program meetings, reporting, marketing ..). These functions together I once called a program management system.

Remember a main reason for a (program) WBS is to simplify the complexity of the program structure for all stakeholders. A communication tool foremost.
