As an experienced nonprofit professional I use project management tools daily and I want to formally learn project management and switch my career path. I already have an MPA.
I am feeling a little discouraged because reading this Discussion forum I can see that I won't be able to show 36 months experience leading projects. But, I feel like a lot of the work I've done (budgets, logic models, writing scopes and timelines for programs, determining KPIs and reporting on KPIs) are very much in line with project management concepts. Which is why I am so interested in the career change. I think I would love being a project manager, and I would have a lot more earning potential.
If I can't go straight to the PMP exam, is doing the CAPM training and exam a worthwhile first step for me? Would potential employers value the CAPM plus my years of management experience?
Appreciate any suggestions, thank you! Saving Changes...
Why not take a non-certification training course which will give you a solid, hands-on grounding in common tools & techniques and then apply those to your work projects before seeking certification?
