The countdown has begun to International Project Management Day on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011! IPM Day, created in 2004, is intended to encourage project-based organizations worldwide (or organizations who utilize project management methodologies) to schedule some type of recognition event within their organizations or coordinated locally with others to truly demonstrate appreciation for the achievements of project managers and their teams. It doesn’t matter where you are, or how big or small your team/company is.

What ways (both big and small) will you celebrate this important day? What individual and team activities do you have planned? What ideas can you share with others looking to enjoy this day devoted to the PM community? We wanted to hear from our fellow ganttheads (always a creative bunch!) on this upcoming celebration of our craft. (For more information and ideas on how to get involved, check out the IPM Day site)

The UK event, Synergy 2011, looks rather good- unfortunately I have another booking for part of that day however. Are there any virtual events happening too?

I will be throwing a party at work . We will have brownies and cookies. I have a IPMD banner which I put up across a wall or two and have pictures of Henry Gantt and Frank Salidas. Did I spell that right? Mr. Gantt is there because most people do not know how the Gantt chart got its name and Frank is there because he is the father of IPMD. Our Washington DC PMI Chapter usually gives me a welcoming letter. Most people come by because they think I am making a joke. One year, one of the upper Government managers came by and said, "You were serious!" This will be my 4th party.

Greetings and thanks for the IPM day post. There are several events scheduled for Nov. 3. At www.internationalpmday.org we have many of the events listed. Synergy 2011 was initiated almost a year ago and has a very innovative team. It should be a great conference. IIL has a virtual event planned that is truly unique. The NJ Chapter of PMI will hold their annual event with more than 500 people registered to attend. The LaCrosse Wisconsin Mayor has proclaimed IPM Day officially for Nov.3. I recently received word that Buffalo NY has also obtained an official proclamation. There are events all around the world and more are being scheduled. We could use help in spreading the word and bringing more attention to the value project managers bring to the business world.
You can also obtain official IPM day greeting cards at the IPMday website.
With your help we can continue to enhance the perception of project management and create a worldwide project manager power exchange of information and knowledge.
Bill, Thanks for throwing the party. I will have to come down there and buy a few rounds!

There are an estimated 15 to 20 million project managers or people working on projects world wide. We need creative ideas about how to connect this large community and ensure that they are aware of IPM day.
Go to www.internationalpmday.org and register at the site and post your suggestions

International Project Management Day is 6 November 2014. It is the first Thursday of November each year. It is not actually a day of celebration. Its a day of recognition and acknowledgment for project managers and project teams. The day has been designated to raise awareness about the value a professional project manager brings to his or her organization. Many believe that project management is an "unappreciated profession." If you think about, most people outside of the field have no idea what a project manager actually does in performance of their assignment. IPM Day is intended to provide project managers with a portion of the recognition they deserve. It is true that we shouldn't need a specific day of recognition and that people who do great work should be thanked often but, it is also important to educate others about the great things people do. Consider IPM Day as the opportunity to offer a special thanks to the project managers of your organization and to take the time to show appreciation for the things that are accomplished through strong leadership and teamwork.
