Good luck trying to find such an opportunity. Most employers would not allow a non-employee to shadow employees due to confidentiality and competition restrictions.

As Stephane mentioned, I think it is very hard to find such an opportunity.
Anyways, give it a try.

Are you a member of a local PMI chapter that has a mentoring program? In a prior engagement, I was mentoring a somewhat new PM on a large project. After working with her Legal department, she had me sign an NDA and I was able to work with her to make more sense of a very large project schedule.

It is possible to accomplish what you are trying to do, but may take a little time and effort to find someone. Shadowing is not an option at my current employer, but if you have specific questions, send me a message and I'll answer what I can.

Nothing as having the possibility of follow a real scenario to understand the practices adopted in critical situations. I'm with Mr. Porter, the partnership with the local PMI Chapter would open many doors for the reaching of your interests in these aspects of PM. All the best in your journey, pal.
