In a context where junior PMs are studying for the new CAPM pilot exam:

Do you guys find that the BA PG goes totally off topic in an undesired tangent? Up until the beginning of chapter 4 we start getting into requirements and analysis requirements (fair enough) then all of a sudden it starts going on about information presentation models which seem to be so off topic? Further more, the new CAPM exam guideline states that 4.10.11 will be tested, what is the relevance of 'interface models' in an every day junior PM? It really feels like a chapter chopped off from a deep software theory text book plonked into here for no reason. Keen to see peoples thoughts!

Both are totally different roles. Business Analyst focus is product/service/result requirements. The "thing" to be created. Project Manager focus is project requirments. The "way" to create the thing. Project requirements must be defined from product/service/result requirments. All of this taking into account we are creating solutions, where solution is equal "the thing" plus "the way".

I agree with Sergio. Two different roles.

I totally understand that they're two different things and both essential knowledge for a PM. In fact I appreciate that BA content is now part of the CAPM as I see its value for PMs... but have you seen 4.10.11 in the book above?? whack content out of place and extremely irrelevant, specially when specifically referenced as a knowledge point for the upcoming CAPM exam.

As I mentioned business analist if focused on product requirements. But what the BA PG states in 4.10 are different models you could use to model requirements. In this case, the PMI consider that those models are applicable to model project requirements because it is about solutions where solution is equal to product/service/result plus project. In the real life it could be "right or not right" for the solution you are involved to create as project manager.
