By far the most common will be MS Office applications. They cover most business functions so they apply in virtually any course.

Excel particularly is used in a lot of PM and business school classes and has some excellent capabilities, especially once you learn some of the many built-in functions, with add-ins like Solver for math, and by creating macros. Even at the post-grad level, that is a powerful tool.

Using Google Docs can be very useful. You can collaborate real-time on group papers, and even see your teammates typing away.

Excel is helpful. However, I think the students should complete a project in MS Project or Primavera.

What you think should be taught is not the same as what is frequently required in collegiate studies. Did you ever take an undergraduate course that required Primavera?

Unless these tools are provided in the course, I would stay away from software that require an outlay of money.

Good point. I'm looking for a enterprise educational license to use in the classroom. Some has suggested Microsoft Project and Planner as options. Trying to give students background that they may use in industry
