Integrated project delivery has always been a challenge in the construction industry. Culture and contract law forces us into silos. Integration can be facilitated using different contracting models including Design-Build (D-B) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). The IPD model allows for multiple party agreements or contracts recognizing and stressing common objectives and more open communications.

Essentially one has to achieve integration through contract language. The Integration Plan has to be detailed before making contractual commitments and included in the negotiations - the what, how, when must be defined and documented in the various contracts - know what you need and insist on it being provided in a usable and timely manner.
