Ethical choices reduce the risk, advance positive results, increase trust, determine long-term success, and build reputations, ethics lead to trust, which leads to leadership, which in turn leads to project success. Not only do ethics allow us to act in a way consistent with our beliefs, but they’re also a key to executing projects successfully. As a project manager, you must be sensitive to ethics at your place of work.

Dear Bukola
I carefully read your definition of ethics: "Ethics is about making the best possible decisions
concerning people, resources, and the environment"
Honestly, I was wondering what it is about: "making the best possible decisions".
Ethics is so elastic these days that I end up not knowing what it is to make the best possible decisions.
Making the best possible decision involves you putting in some work for your ethical decision-making, I will highlight a few of these which include Identifying what the ethical issues are. Getting your fact right, Evaluate the alternative options and actions that you have, and lastly, try to implement your decisions and reflect on the outcome to be able to make the right and best decisions,
Also, you must be able to seek out resources such as professional guidelines and organizational policies, another approach you can use to get the best ethical decision-making is the Utilitarianism Approach, this approach helps to weigh the different amounts of good and bad that will be produced by your actions. Starting with the definition of ethics as "a civic virtue, concerned with how we are to live in society; it demands an understanding of how our actions affect other people" (Cohen, Randy, The Good, the Bad and the Difference, 2002, p. 10), we see that it's about people interactions, how one person's action will set off a chain of action in others.
Projects are all about people interacting, trying to influence each other. It behooves us to set the bar high to entice others to the same level of excellence and assiduity. Saving Changes...
I would argue that demonstrating sound ethics is less about avoiding ethical dilemmas but rather it is more about how we deal with them.
Strategic vs. personal goals and values is a prime example. The best course of action for a project could conflict with peoples', religious, political, or moral views, or it could require a change of direction that will cost people their jobs (e.g. automation improves productivity but eliminates jobs). Those types of dilemmas are sometimes unavoidable, especially in increasingly more diverse teams and advancing technologies.
How we consider the various angles and make compromises (or not), reflects on our ethics as leaders, and whether people trust us to manage difficult situations where there is no perfect solution. Saving Changes...

Here's a question for you:
Is it ethical to contribute to the extraction, processing, transportation and usage of petroleum hydrocarbons considering the known significant impact of carbon on the environment?
I'm not trying to get political here just hi-lighting the complexity of ethics in this modern world.
Note; I worked in the domestic oil and gas industry for some of my professional years, mostly in production and refining. My ethical considerations at the time reflected my society's norm. Saving Changes...
