Hello Members,

After getting my PMP certification, my role within the organization has changed.
I have transitioned to Project Governance with emphasis upon stabilization & profit margin improvement initiatives. Based on the current responsibilities, some of my colleagues suggested me to go for PgMP certification.

I would invite your views & suggestions on the possible certification to support my current role and future enhancement.

Thanks in advance.

Certifications won't do much for you if you don't have the actual experience so I suggest you work in the role for a year or two then consider another credential.

In that case, getting the PgMP will certify what you already are doing. You may learn more about programme management during your studies for the PgMP but it likely won't add much to your experience. And, it certainly won't help you for your next level.

Have you considered seeking additional work, preferably your boss's? You need to show you are interested, willing and able to tackle the next level of responsibilities.

Thanks for sharing quite an insightful reply. Did you mean to take up a part of my boss's role in coming days if I am able to convince him about my capabilities?
For further help from your side, let me share a few more points.
Currently I am working in India & about to transition to USA to another entity within the same organization. My role would be to set up the Project Governance office there first and then work with the Project Owners as well as PM's to tackle the challenges in project in the North & South America region.
This initiative will take atleast 1 year to be fully functional and onboard all key stakeholders.
I would like to chalk out the future roadmap within this time to ensure that I keep addressing challenges in the ever volatile markets.

If you consider you have enough experience after obtaining PMP certification, pursuit the PgMP maybe a good option.

PgMP could be a good choice! However, have an eye on the market.

Mayukh,

It depends on your career ambitious and the available opportunities in your work environment, I suggest that you assess the current problems in your work environment and find the intersection between your passion, purpose, and problem that need to be solved, then you will know the best learning topic for you, what matter most is your contribution and success stories that you create.
