Study PMBOK 6th Edition thoroughly and read through the 7th edition but be aware, that the exam is not based on the PMBOK only so I suggest additional resource like Rita Mulcahy Exam Prep book.

Good Luck!

You should check the PMP Exam Reference List. You will notice that they don't speciy a particular version of the PMBOK Guide.

I recommend you read the PMBOK 6th and 7th editions. Also, Rita Mulcahy's certification prep is a good option to acquire PM Knowledge at your own pace, and is updated to the latest exam. Visit this link:

I would say PMBOK 6 and 7. However, they are not sufficient. You better read Rita's preparation book. You also need real-job experience as well.

I wrote the PMP exam back in August. I utilised PMBOK 6, 7, and The Agile Practice guide. I found my exam skewed heavily toward agile and hybrid project management.

Also, I could just be weird, but I read a lot of articles and white papers here on projectmanagement.com in addition to other study tools such as Pocket Prep, PMI's Study Hall Essentials, and the free Skillsoft PMP training provided by my company.

If PMBOK 7 is released, go with it. The latest greatest. Reading PMBOK 6 helps only 40-50 percent. Because actual exam emphasizes Agile, Scrum and basics of Crystal, DA and various other practices. In addition, practice situational questions than memory ones with time limit. This must help.

And hopefully, PMBOK 7 covers the gap (Agile and other methodologies) that PMBOK 6 has.

I also found lots of questions on Hybrid methodologies in my exam (passed in 2021). Because this is related to current industry trend and actually happened during Covid and past Covid times. (You have to have a flexible mind or thinking and selecting best possible answers for Hybrid while eliminating the obvious wrong one's matters.)

Vijay, I agree with the majority of what you've mentioned except that the PMBOK 7th edition won't cover the gaps. PMBOK 6th Edition and Agile Exention are still an integral part of the PMP exam with minimal amount of questiosn from the 7th edition. Don't quote me but this is what I've been hearing from candidates who recently took the exam.

HI Rami,
It was the same way with PMBOK6. Looks like a holistic approach (knowing all other methodologies) is what is required than just knowing PMBOK6 or 7 then.

Correct, I agree. PMI provides a list of references on which the exam is based so yes, one needs to do more than just the 6th or 7th edition.
