Hi.

I am currently studying towards a four year degree and have matric which I passed with a Bachelor's Admission. I also do not have any related experience in project management, but I would like to learn. How do I go about enrolling for a course, even though I do not meet the requirements. Is there something that can be offered related to project management in the Institute? Kindly advise.

Thank you

Typically course pre-requisites are based on reducing the risk of failure - statistically your chance of success significantly increases as you meet the course requirements.
In your application you may wish to stress what you do have to offer that may offset your lack of stated requirements.

You can sometimes petition the instructor or department to waive some minimum requirements, but it requires a justification as Peter said. For that I would call the department head or if the have some kind of student guidance personnel. That is likely to be more successful than sending something in writing. You can get real time feedback rather than hoping for an acceptance with probably little explanation if not.

If you are looking to apply for PMP, then the short answer is no, you do not qualify because you have no experience but you can start with CAPM credential which is knowledge based and is a good start for individuals like yourself.

PMI offers courses and there are many courses on Udemy of which I recommend those for Joseph Philips.

Hope this helps.

As Rami says, you can start with a CAPM credential, that fits your current needs, and is according to the requisites you meet.

You can, but in my humble opinion you should not to. My recommendation is not going for a certification (sorry for disagree with some of my high respetable "debatemates"). A certification will not give you what you need to practice project management (just to comment I have 3 PMI´s certifications). In my opinion you should contact local PMI chapters and ask them to involve you in some of them internal programs.

I think some of us may have been interpreting different things from the original question due to language barriers.

I interpreted it as whether there are courses you can take from PMI to meet acceptance requirements for a university course in PM, such as intended for an advanced degree program. From the other responses, I am certain that is now how others understood the question.

I'm curious as to what specializations you chose for your bachelor degree. You speek of matriculation but don't say in what. Most universities and colleges offer elective courses that have little to do with your core program (spelunking anyone?).

Have you considered learning by doing? Help a charitable organization set up an event. Managing an event is very much managing a project.
