Thursday marks the 8th annual International Project Manger Day, a day that should be celebrated by all. The IPM website provides some solid ideas and recommendation on how to honor and recognize PMs across the globe, things like: sign up for a project management course, buy a new project management book, send an IPM day greeting card to a project manager or project team member, etc.
All that’s good, but here’s another take…
To the clients, team members, and managers – flowers and candy are of course welcomed, if you’re a hugger that’s fine too, but here are a few other ideas for you:
Team Member
? For the full month of November commit: “I will be on time to every meeting, be prepared and take notes.” In writing and signed would be even better.
? For the day, check the documentation before you instant message the question. The info you need is there, honest.
? Tell each and every member of the team why they are indispensable. Yes, you’re very important, but so are they.
Client (internal or external)
? Have feedback due Thursday? Send it Wednesday. Better yet send an email signing off on the deliverable.
? Instead of 10 emails on Thursday, consolidate all your thoughts into one comprehensive email. That would be a lovely gift.
? Please give your email a full read through before hitting send, especially if you’re CCing anyone on my team.
Manager
? I know that internal report is important to you, but for the day let your PM focus on their project. They’ll thank you for that.
? Recognize them! Tell the teams to recognize them! Acknowledge that they are heroes, each and everyone.
PMs, AMs, Producers, Coordinators and the like
? Pat yourself on the back, stand proud, and embrace your awesomeness. Not just Thursday, everyday!
Happy Project Manger Day to all!! Saving Changes...
I watched several presentations, chatted with Frank Saladis, Judy Ulmas and Harold Kerzner.

I attended Synergy in London and it was good. Not at all like a normal conference, far more energy and fun. It seemed like a good way to celebrate project management and project managers in the UK. Saving Changes...
