Under Direct and Manage Project Work, I am aware that Organizational Process assets is an input. But I am confused, the answer in PMChallenge says that it is both an input and output. Base on PMBOK 6th Edition,4.3.3.7, I believe it can only be classified as output when the Organizational Process assets have been updated. Can someone please enlighten me on this?

My recommendation: do not take PM Challenge as a source to study for the exam. On the other side, if you are study for the PMP credential take into account that questions are situational questions then to study inputs and outputs will not help you except to understand how to give an answer for a situation. So, in this case is better going to the process which are part of 4.3. To address your question if you see 2.3 and then see 4.3.1 you will find some of them are part of the input and some of then are part of the output. So, OPAs are input-outputs.

Wow, Sergio, full answer.

Dondon, OPA updates result in OPA, so PMChallenge is not wrong, maybe not too exact.

Maybe look at a newer source:
The new PMI Guide ProcessGroupsPracticeGuide shows on page 134 the ITTOs of the process Direct and Manage Project Work. OPAs are inputs and OPA updates are output.

You will find that very often, the inputs of a process are also the outputs. Managing projects is an ongoing process so the plans and deliverables are refined over time. We have a plan (input) we take some kind of action (process), and based on the action we revise the plan (output).

I agree with Sergio. Organizational Process Assets are both inputs and outputs of direct and manage project work.

Hi Dondon,

The most important output of the Direct and manage Project work is Approved deliverable.

Out side of that we have Work Performance data, Issue log and change requests are also outputs. In addition, Project management plan updates, project document updates and OPA updates (not OPA) are also outputs.

While you cannot know, all the inputs and outputs, Always focus on the important output of that process group.(Know the important output for a given input along with important Tool and technique).

Please do know about workflow especially that of Work performance data, information and Report., Control Quality and Validate Scope process.

Work Performance Data is the raw project data, which, when analyzed under a particular project context becomes Work Performance Information. And then Work Performance Information when presented in a suitable manner (tabular, graphical and so on) becomes Work Performance Reports.

For Control Quality and validate scope processes please see PMBOK.

Hope this helps.
