I am working on a couple of projects. Since I work with the same resources for all the projects, I tried to have them all on a single .mpp file. But I am not able to create an online project because the tasks in the project are more than 500. Has anyone experienced this before? Is there any way around this? Saving Changes...
Stephane,
I am not sure that would work in my case. If at all, it will mean that I will have to update each of the project files any time there are changes. This is what I am doing by the way because I have to break the project into smaller chunks. Saving Changes...

The trick is to create you master schedule that contains your enterprise resources. You then add sub-projects that reference the enterprise resources from the master. When done properly, you either make a change in the master (i.e., updating a resource) or you are updating a specific sub-project (i.e., changing a task assignment). I've been successful with that approach. Saving Changes...
Google the following for a microsoft article on setting up a resource pool:
"Create and share a resource pool in Project desktop"
It's a similar concept to what Stephane suggested, but you're sharing resources in stead of adding subprojects.

Thank you, Aaron. I figured out resource pooling. Stephanie's idea was perfect.

If you are using MS Project Server then it will help with pool of resources. On the other side the question is: do I need to have visibility of 500 tasks? it is quit impossible and it is not useful trying to control a project in this way. Just my experience.

Thanks, Sergio. I agree with you.
The plan is NOT to make all the tasks visible. I intend to create a roadmap that can make specific tasks that I will choose to be visible. I still need to have all the tasks on the project but visibility will be for a few of those.
