PMBOK 6 vs PMBOK 7

I am about halfway through the PMI course online with PMBOK 6 - had to take a 6 month hiatus because I was brought in to do project coordination for an acquisition/integration. I saw that the PMBOK 7 will be used early 2023. Should I hold off on continuing studying the 6th edition and wait until the 7th edition is loaded into the system for the 23 credits before I can take the exam?

I'm assuming you are referring to the new CAPM being released something in early 2023?

If so, the content in the Sixth Edition is still valid as it provides details of the PMBOK framework, but the set of references for the CAPM Exam Content Outline are here: https://www.pmi.org/-/media/pmi/documents/...838066bdc3e8bc2

I think you need to focus on PMBOK 7 rather than PMBOK 6. PMBOK 6 and prior versions discuss knowledge areas and processes, whereas PMBOK 7 starts with the fundamental principles that guide the framework, leading to knowledge areas and processes.

Gulshan, I think the exam is still heavily based on the 6th edition, have you heard otherwise?

From what I hear, the exam is still heavily based on the 6th edition and has lots of Agile / Hybrid questions. I suggest you study the 6th edition, read through the 7th and study an additional resource like Rita Mulcahy Exam Prep book.

I recommend you finish reading PMBOK 6th Edition, and then start the PMBOK 7th Edition read, because the exam may be based on both.

I took the exam early January 2023 and can say it was about 50% agile, which I believe is a PMBOK 7 structure. Where can I find PMBOK 7 resources? Everything is PMBOK 6 still, it seems. (I failed the exam. Very narrowly, but nonetheless.)

Hayley -

Most good quality PMP prep courses (PMI's as well as independent ones like Velociteach) as well as the best known self-study guides have been updated to include the necessary agile & hybrid content.

From a reference material perspective, PMI does indicate that the Agile Practice Guide is also one of the resources to consult...
