An idea on a New Certification for PMI - Policy Management Professional (PoMP)! Why not?

I am a doctoral student majoring in Health Policy and Leadership at the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University.

I am PMP certified Jan 2022. While studying Policy Analysis, Policy Design, and Policy Development, I see many similarities with the PMP structure. The way to engage the stakeholder, schedule and feedback timing, and so much agility. Then I searched for any professional certificate like PMP for Policy Design and Development. There are fewer or not as recognized as PMI-PMPs worldwide.

So, I decided to connect with PMI leaders like you to take the initiative to get a product like at PMI as a Policy Management Professional (PoMP) certificate for policymakers. The studies show a massive demand for policymakers from the federal to small-medium business level, and there is such a supply shortage. These certificates help people develop their skills in Policy development and get recognized worldwide.

If one agrees that ideating, creating and implementing a policy is a project, then the PMP seems to tick off the right boxes. I am not sure that PMI should develop a specific certification for this sub-set of projects, and rather focus on a approach that can be used for all sort of projects across all industries and sectors. Just my two cents.

I'd agree with Eduard - PMI's full credentials have focused on specific knowledge areas or levels of the portfolio-program-project management hierarchy. However, one could see benefit in a micro-certification for this similar to what they are (I believe) doing for construction projects.

Kiron, the construction one have 3 micro-credentials but also a capstone exam for the PMI-CP. you need to complete all seven courses and micro-credentials before you can apply for the capstone exam.

A Policy Management Professional certification would make more sense through an organization such as Oxford Policy Management or the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management.

I agree with my fellow colleagues and like Kiron said, it would make more sense to have a micro-credential for this than a credential.
