PMI Certifications and Courses - Too Many Options

I am an experienced project manager trying to find the best courses/certifications. I actually have a limited widow of opportunity to apply for funding and I'm trying to strike while the iron is hot.

I have wanted PMP certification for some time as that's the Gold standard. I see that I can get a prep course for abut $1473 CAD and then the Exam Fee on top of that, however I very much want to learn some more about Agile as well.

For those working in Agile environments who have done this, what combination of courses/certifications would you suggest I aim for? If someone could walk me through this, it would be greatly appreciated. There are simply too many options!

Thank you

Just to clarify, are you looking for agile knowledge or training/certification? You can get both, but if you're not worried about certification, there are less expensive options.

To pass the current PMP exam, you do need to have a good grounding in agile so taking a prep course might help you kill two birds with one stone.

However, as Aaron has indicated, if learning about agile is the primary goal, there are cheaper (non-certification) options available. The key is to find opportunities to apply what you learn in your day-to-day work otherwise it will be of limited value.

If you decide to go the non-certification route, I'd suggest finding an agile course (live or virtual) which has a significant hands-on component.

Thank you both. I'm hoping to do both, learn Agile and gain certification. I currently have a limited time opportunity for potential funding which I intend to take full advantage of. Is there a PMP Prep course that focuses heavily on agile that anyone could recommend? I am fairly confident with waterfall PM style and have been doing it for years. I'm just not certified. I also have a 4-year degree which accelerates that a bit.

Matthew -

I can provide a somewhat biased opinion that the Velociteach PMP prep course does provide comprehensive agile coverage while also being a very complete prep system.

The bias is that I do teach that course (virtually) so I'd recommend that you do your own independent due diligence.

I recommend Rita Mulcahy's agile courses. Check this link: https://rmcls.com/agile/

Hi Matthew,
Do you still need to complete the 35 required contact hours to be qualified to seat the exam? If so, this is the PMI PMP Exam prep course that is $699USD https://www.pmi.org/shop/us/p-/elearning/p...exam-prep/el034
I completed the required hours in a course during my MBA program, so I am currently utilizing a lower-cost PMI Resource "Study Buddy" https://studyhall.pmi.org/app/pmi-study-hall-plus-2
It gives different amounts of practice questions and mock exams depending on the subscription you get - but you get detailed rationale for question answers, reports on what topics you're performing well or need to study more, and you can clear your responses to exams and retake as many times as you need. It gives you lots of metrics so you can track your progress, and I highly recommend it.

Also - I share your challenge with Agile. To help me better understand Agile, I purchased the "Agile Hybrid Project Pro Microcredential" - you get 3 exam attempts. I just failed the first attempt today, which I was not surprised by as I struggle with test anxiety, but it may be helpful to you as well. There are a lot of agile resources on the PMI site, I encourage you to read through them.
