Hello to everyone!!

I always wonder if there is any better way to get started as a project manager in a new organization. I know that first thing to do is to orient oneself with the organization. What else? What could be the right approach?

Apart from building the relationship and understanding the processes/tools that the new company uses, i would suggest for you to effective as a PM, the following would help:
- Understand the stakeholders (internal and customer) and what influence/power they have for project's success or failure
- go through the business need for the project (Porject charter) and understand why the customer wants this project in the first place. This would help you prioritize and action what would be more critical for this project and help provide the value-add you bring to the table

Project Managers these days are going hi-tech and more savvy w.r.t. their operations. Earlier most was paper work. But now specialized project management software are at work helping smoothen efficiency within the workforce. It is essential to implement a project management software that acts as a collaborative platform and helps streamline business projects, reduce costs, increase productivity, and also improve collaboration and communication. We do it with Microsoft's Project Standard 2010. Have you had any exposure to any software application.
