How about the idea of doing a promotion to generate leads?
How about the idea of running a lead generation promotion asking all members to refer their friends and people in their networks to join PMI

- Advantage for those who invite:
"Earn a certain amount (and/or discounts on some products) for each person who joins PMI or for each person who invites and accesses PMI websites"

- Advantage in accessing:
"Being able to access the PMI website (and others, for example: PMIstandards+) for free, for a certain period, before deciding to become a member and, consequently, to all the knowledge generated to date"

Advantage for PMI:
- Significantly increase the number of members

How to do this? It's simple with the technology we have at our disposal today.

- What are the disadvantages of using this sales promotion for PMI?

- Will it add the number of certified people?

- Will it add value to products marketed by PMI?

- What will be the impact on PMI's reputation?

- What other questions could be asked? (related to an initiative of this nature and the impact on reputation, strategy and/or products and services proposed by PMI)

PMI is already doing a similar program with some of their product in the https://www.pmigeneration.org/ site where certain members like me were approached to promote some of their products.

In general, I'm not a fan of such schemes as I don't necessarily believe more members will result in greater service value to existing members.

Dear Kiron
Thanks for participating in this reflection.

I didn't know that PMI was developing a similar program

Is it a pilot program to later open to all members?

So the questions I posed become even more pertinent.

I know that last year, in September, PMI (for some regions) did a promotion with a significant reduction in the membership price.

Despite this, the number of members at the end of the year decreased

For this reason, and once again, it would be interesting to discuss the questions I posed

I tried to browse the link you sent me but, as I don't have permissions, I couldn't analyze the program's proposals

It might have been a pilot program because I have not seen or heard of any expansion of it. That might be a result of poor results from the referral process.

An example of one of the products which was offered through the program was the Wicked Problem Solving workshop.

Reducing the cost of membership to attract folks is one thing but incenting existing members to try to sign up others is entirely another. The former is just standard pricing tactics whereas the latter is too much like a multi-level marketing scheme (e.g. Amway) for my tastes...

Dear Kiron
Do the ends (increase membership) justify the means?

Honestly... nothing surprises me at PMI anymore!
