I studied and received my PMI-SP in 2015. In early 2020 I decided to go after my PMP. I was approved by PMI that I was eligible to take the test and I begin studying. My goal was to take the test before the changes were implemented in 2021. Well then COVID happened, family matters, new job, relocation, etc. etc. etc. and my approval expired. I want to get back on the "horse" so to speak and finally acquire my PMP this year. For some reason I have developed extreme test phobia and am going to try and push through that. I have been reading advice on here and my study plan is as follows:
1. Read PMBOK 6 edition (I already own)
2. Read PMBOX 7 edition (need to purchase)
3. Purchase and go through Rita Mulchay's PMP Exam Prep
4. Use Simulator Package through PM Prep Cast.

My question separate from my planned learning are they still allowing online testing? When I took my PMI-SP I lived in the states and went to a testing center. Now I am living in a country where there is no testing center. I know during COVID they moved to online testing. Is that still available? I guess I am scared to sign up & actually schedule the test to even find out until I get some studying under my belt. I do not know why I am so terrified of this test.

Hi Amber,
The PMP exam is available online .One of my friend had just passed it last month. In my opinion, if you run twice through PMBOK7 and Rita's guide & complete 2-3 series of mock tests, then the exam can easily be cracked. Preparation may take 4-6 weeks max.
Best of luck.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I do not know why I have allowed myself to become so fearful of the actual test.

Amber -

I'd recommend reviewing PMI's FAQ for online testing for the PMP exam as well as browsing the past articles in this particular forum regarding the online test experience.

If you are scoring well above 80% in good quality comprehensive practice exams, you shouldn't be overly worried about passing.

Good luck!

Amber, I agree with my fellow colleagues and while the exam is available online, I personally still prefer going to a testing Center. I highly recommend you ensure you practice good quality simulation exams before your actual test. This is my advise in terms of study resources:

1) Read through the Exam Content Outline (ECO), PMBOK 6th Edition (Including the Agile Extension as lots of questions are Agile / Hybrid based) and then read the PMBOK 7th edition (it is a small book).

2) Go through Rita Mulchay’s Exam Prep book, I think its 10th edition now, not sure so double check. This is one of the best resources for exam preparation.

3) After you are done, purchase the Simulator Package through PM Prep Cast and practice as much as you can. This is a great simulator and resource for questions that mimic the real exam. Try to avoid free resources as sometimes they can be misleading.

4) If you want a course to fulfill your 35 Hours then check Joseph Phillips on Udemy. He is a PMI ATP and great instructor.

Good Luck!

I kinda prefer to take in a testing center to but the closest one is 3 and half hours away. So still trying to decide. I appreciate your advice on what training to do. I plan to do that exactly. Rita actually offers a 12 month cloud version it looks like that I can do online. The country I am living in is hard to get books so I am leaning toward that. Any suggestions about online training I can listen to while I work as my studies will have to be in evening and weekend but would be nice to absorb some data while working as well.

PMP exam is available online, if you prefer this form of assessment.

I recommend Rita Mulcahy's certification prep, it's a good option to acquire PM Knowledge at your own pace, and is updated to the latest exam. Visit this link:

Rather than purchase the PMBOK Guide Seventh Edition, you might want to consider becoming a PMI member. Not only is that edition available as a free download to members, but you will also gain access to many other free PMI resources, including premium webinars in this forum, a great help for PDUS.

I wish I had seen this sooner!!! I am a PMI member and I went & spent 50 euros on the book. So glad I was able to download though as that means I can get started right away.

On Udemy, there are some courses for Joseph Phillips and I heard they are great and at a reasonable price.

Are you still eligible? Your online training can be only 1 year old, then you need to do it again.
And personally I cant recommend anything better than Andrew Ramdayal course, I found it far more useful than Rita.

Miriama, this is the first time I hear that your training must be one year old. Did PMI recently introduce this 1 Year limit? If so, can you please let us know where they mention this on their website. Thanks!
