I currently work as a project analyst, where I am currently responsible for delivering a project. This has only involved the testing and the implementation of it, with no input to the requirements gathering, budgets etc. I am now being given the chance to move into the role of PMO analyst, but don't exactly know what this involves. It seems as though the project analyst can be described as a PMO analyst, although I've not done any of the work of the PMO.
From what I've found on the net, the PMO analyst appears to deal with project reporting, maintaining the RAID log etc. In my current role, I don't take anything to do with budgets, the RAID log, reporting etc. This is all taken care of by the PM. All I do is test & implement.
So, if I move to the role of the PMO analyst, what will I do? What will my duties and responsibilities, broadly speaking, be?

The role of PMO analyst can vary by PMO. I have seen many PMOs have a PMO analyst that works closely with the PMO manager to ensure that the activities of the PMO in support of the PMO plan and strategy are reviewed and continually improved upon. In this context, the PMO analyst is not so much invloved with project-related analysis but rather analysis related to the effectiveness and performance of the PMO as a business unit. Very exciting..! I have served in role of PMO Analyst and though it may vary from place to place I believe there is commonality.
In my position, I did many things such as:
- Worked with executive management to develop the strategic direction of the PMO
- Contributed to the develop of the PMO's strategic plan
- Developed new processes
- Performed process improvement activities
- Developed and delivered training
- Participated in project selection activities
