what can we do with the PDUs apart from renewal of certification?

What are the additional benefits of earning multiple Professional Development Units (PDUs) beyond meeting the requirements for maintaining a certification, and how can they contribute to career growth and development?

Gathering PDUs can become an addiction like other bonus points schemes. Addictions have a positive influence on our emotions, yet they can be detrimental in the long term.

Points gathering is a technique used in gamification to create a bondage with customers, to the benefit of the issuer.

The purpose of PDUs is just that we stay engaged with project management, we read, study, listen, develop skills etc. And that is the real benefit you can carry along.

I personally NEVER counted PDUs, but I always had enough, since 1998. Just because I learned and contributed continuously.

As Thomas has said, PDUs are a lagging, vanity indicator so beyond their value in enabling recertification, I ignore them.

I agree with my fellow colleagues and just like Thomas, I never counted my PDUs either as I continously work on my professional development, volunteer and contribute back to the profession and community.

Thanks very much Thomas, Kiron, Rami for sharing your feedback on PDUs, I feel pleasure to contribute to the community. OfCourse not always we count on numbers. As I have started engaging more time with this team keep getting mails of PDUs added hence thought of checking.

I only use PDFs for re-cert. no other application for me.

The main benefit of PDUs is that with this system you're continuously updated on the latest tendencies and information in Project Management. This is a primordial strategy because any area of knowledge evolves through time, and with these re-certification requirements, we are motivated to be actualized and contribute to the profession.

Latha, I agree with the previous comments on the purpose / value of the PDUs. The company that I work for uses training hours as a KPI for staff development. I am able to report my PDUs as professional development training which helps the company with the training KPI.
