Dear PMI Friends,

Does anyone have a burndown and/or burnup chart template available? Looking to create a work or production based burndown over the project life. An X Y lined graph would be great!

Rather than a template, Joshua, you can generate it using an Excel table. Here's just one external site that provides procedures on doing so: https://clickup.com/blog/burndown-chart-ex...k%20iteration).

Try to check under Templates on this platform but it is very easy to create one on excel. Are you facing any issues creating one?

Thanks, Rami. No problem with creating one, just looking for a template that someone has already created that may have more than what I can build. Tried looking through Templates but only resource burndown chart is available. I could use it and replace the data points and graphic selection, but then I may as well create one from scratch.

I also looked and didn't find any here so you may be better off creating one from scratch and you could submit it to PMI to include it with the templates here under your name.

Burn up is normally better than burn down.

Hi Joshua,

You can create a burndown chart in an excel.

Put all your duration in days or weeks in one column.
Again put your planned hours for days or week in another column. Use the third column to enter the actual hours for the days or week as you do the work.

Click on the three columns, select burn down chart option and generate the same. Your vertical axis can be days or week while horizontal can show tasks. Please note burn down chart does not consider scope change. The assumption is that you know all the tasks well and have estimated hours for the same accurately.

Same way you can generate burn up chart as well in excel. Though parameters slightly differ, (Burn up chart mainly shows remaining work and considers scope change)

Regards
Vijay
