Beside all the great answers I heve read so far, I must expose sone trait that just stunned me with my mentor.
I met him 20 years ago and however I changed company several times, he remained a very close friend.
He is able to discuss about pretty much anything with me and remain professional. He was able of empathy and understanding when I encountered major personal issues.
On top of that he was also able to think out of the box, to challenge what everyone was condidering as normal, as expected like deadlines.
But more than all this he had an exceptional emotional memory. 10 years after having met him and 4 years after having left the company, I was having catastrophic personal issues, and he was able to give me back the exact words I had told him in my first interview with him. He knew these words were proving my strenght, my ability to bounce. Her was able to give them back to me to prove me that I was strong when I was at the lowest.
This is what I call a great leader. This is a great friend. Saving Changes...
