I downloaded a WBS generator Excel workbook with a built-in macro, but I get the 'Security Risk...file is untrusted' Microsoft warning. so the macros are blocked. Are these templates scrubbed by anyone to ensure security? I am using my work laptop, so need to make sure.

Joe -

What was the source of the template - was it this community? If so, I'd feel fairly confident that it is safe.

Also, many anti-virus scanners do have the ability to check content in XLSX files so it would likely be scanned as soon as you copy it to your work laptop.

Kiron....Thank you for the feedback. Yes...it was a template I downloaded from this site. I was wondering if there was a way to scan just the file before allowing it to run the macros.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but you should be able to right-click the file in the File Explorer, before you open it. The context menu should have an option that says something like "Scan for threats" depending on the antivirus/anti-malware software running on your computer.

You can always download it and scan with any modern antivirus program if you are concerned. When you open excel, you should get a banner at the bottom of the screen with the option to enable macros or not. It may differ by software version.

Microsoft usually warns users about files with macros, especially when the source of the file isn't recognized. If you downloaded the Excel archive from projectmanagement.com, you should be sure that it's safe. Tell MS that you trust in the file source, and then you'll be able to enable macros.
