I am looking for an open source project costing tool for our organisation. I would appreciate your recommendations and experiences with different tools.

I use Excel. It takes some advanced knowledge to use effectively and it's difficult for others to decode how the original creator built the cost models, but you can link it directly to SQL databases and the calculation capabilities are very powerful. There is also an abundance of free tutorials available from Microsoft, on YouTube, and from other sources.

It sounds like you are looking for a tool to track actual costs, not estimate costs.
