I have some specific questions about the benefits of earning a PgMP that my organization is asking - any PMI employees on here who I can connect with?

Jessica, I recommend you try and call or chat with PMI Customer Care and they can direct you to the right department. Not sure though if they will be able to answer this specific question that you have but you can try.

I have definitely tried! It's hard to get through, hoping to connect here directly with someone who works for PMI.

I'd suggest that PMI staff are likely to be biased about the benefits of any of their products so you'd probably get better feedback from folks in this community who have earned that credential like Rami.

What are you questions, feel free to share them here and I will see if I can address them as I earned my PgMP credential few years ago.

Thank you - are there any additional examples / justifications that you can provide describing why there would be value in my company paying for my PgMP cert? You provided some great answers before, but they are looking for additional (measurable) reasons.

If you are in a consulting organization and having the PgMP increases the odds that your company's proposal would be accepted by a client, then there is a very tangible benefit to them of supporting it. However, if you are working in an internal PgM capacity its a lot trickier as they'd have to weigh the costs (financial and time) of supporting your certification against:

1. Other certifications
2. Other professional development options (e.g. a conference, formal training courses)
3. Investing in a different employee's professional development
4. Spending the $ on something entirely different

If you could show that the credential will increase the odds of your being able to deliver a challenging program successfully, that might work, but there are so many factors outside of the control of a PM/PgM which might help or hinder outcomes that I wouldn't put high odds on being able to sell that justification...

It is difficult to speak to that because every organization is different. I don’t know what you exactly do, what your organization does, their strategy, future goals and how you can add value to them if you get certified. The only person who would know is you.

You should evaluate the credential, what you will learn based on the Exam Content Outline and how getting certified can add value to them.

For some organisations, having certified professional is good for their reputation, for others they don’t stress that much on professional development. For example, I manage programs within my organisations, so it was beneficial for me to go for the PgMP. However, my employer covered 50% of the cost only because they saw partial added value so I paid the rest because I also saw the value in it.

Sorry for not being able to provide the answer you want but I doubt anyone can provide a clear cut answer to your question.

I am a program manager (title is sr. program coordinator) in the department of radiation oncology at a large hospital/ cancer center. The largest part of my job is planning and executing ~5 annual national conferences for doctors. I also run the department's websites, social media, video projects, and newsletter. I'm responsible for compiling annual reports on faculty activities and other metrics. And, I manage other educational programs, visiting lecturers, internal communications, awards, philanthropy efforts, community outreach, and internal department events.

Given what I'm responsible for, are there ways that getting a PgMP certification would help measurably increase my value to the company/ specific examples? How would a certification help with planning educational events, marketing efforts/ content creation, organizational skills, reporting, and even community outreach/ DEI efforts?

Right now, my boss's comments are that he sees the value in being a PMI member. But, not a big difference in value between membership and the $800 verification. My department definitely has the budget for this, it's just a matter of measurably quantifying and explaining why we should do it. As I move forward into my career, I'm hoping to move away from projects and more into the program space.

Jessica, given what you’ve mentioned about your role, you won’t benefit as much from PgMP and I am not sure you will qualify to apply. The application process is very rigorous.

That said, I believe PMP will be a much better option for you and the organization. You should about doing it. Good Luck!
