Greetings, esteemed project managers! Today, we gather to envision the future of AI tools in project management and explore creative solutions that enhance efficiency, collaboration, and overall project success. We invite you to unleash your imagination and share innovative ideas that could shape the landscape of project management with the assistance of AI for the years to come.

We are here to ignite creativity and envision the possibilities, rather than prescribing solutions. Feel free to share your ideas, concepts, and desires for the helpful project management AI tools, without being limited to any specific examples.

Your ideas are the driving force behind this discussion. Inspire, engage and share!

Let the brainstorming begin! Thank you for your contributions.

As science has advanced over the last century, similarities between different types of natural and man-made systems have become apparent in abundance spanning classical science fields like physics and chemistry, through engineering, biology, sociology, financial systems, etc. The field of General Systems Theory is dedicated to the isomorphisms (similar qualities) between different types of systems.

By better characterizing the processes, tools, and human behaviors applicable in project management, and similarly the types of products/outcomes of the projects we manage, we should be able to gain great capabilities from AI applying lessons learned from completely different fields of study. Algorithms used for biological study can be applied to organizational development for example, as both are open systems relying on input from the environment, reduce entropy (disorder) over time, grow, and differentiate into more complex subsystems over their lifecycles.

As a practical example, patterns identified from organic chemistry could help predict teaming risks in software development projects.

How about a PM simulation for new PMs or those seeking certification which adapts and changes based on the behavior and decisions of the participant. I envision something like the "Kobayashi Maru" simulation from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan...

What about PMIGPT? do you folks think that will help in the day to day of a PM?

A lessons learned interface where you enter in parameters about your project and it curates a list of lessons learned from all past and current projects that are related.

This might not be helpful at a small company, but I've worked at a company where we had 8 PMs in our PMO and there were a few other PMOs in the company. Just our team had a repository of several years worth of Lessons Learned that nobody wanted to take the time to search through.

Nice initiative!

3 suggestions:

1/ Digital excellence
AI needs digital collaboration for success
As most project managers are taught GANT or EVM, project management could include Digital Collaboration for success. The world is changing and Digital excellence is becoming a requirement for any business. AI could be a subset of Digital excellence foundation.
Then PMI coud offer trainings as part of Digital excellence for how to shop for AI, how to implement AI, how to use AI, how to prompt AI, how to evaluate AI outputs, how to adapt to AI.
Project Intelligence could be another foundational block and could have with ties with AI.

2/ Cognitive science
Acting on SYSTEM motivations through Emotional intelligence and Powers skills. PMI is already doing that but I believe even more emphasis on cognitive implications will be beneficial. 1 of the most aggressive forecast I ve seen was inferring that Project Managers will be renamed Project Coaches. While it is aggressive, it provides some insights.

3/ Critical and Strategic thinking
AI comes in many forms, Reactive, Generative, Predictive, Adaptive, Explainable...While there is a common hype for generative AI, businesses will not be flabbergasted . End to End Process Machine Learning capabilities provide and will continue to provide the highest value to businesses.

I will be happy to contribute on detailing examples on how to shop or to use AI for various project management processes.
