Hi,

I recently got '60 PDU to renew My PMP certification that expires in Mar 2024. If i renew it now, would the PMP certification be renewed until Mar 2027 or Aug 2026. I didn't want to overlap the duration I already have the valid certification. Thank you in advance for the reply

It will be renewed until March 2027 - Your certification 3 Years March cycle doesn't change regardless of when you renew your credential. I sometimes renew some of my credentials a year in advance, the cycle never changes.

So to answer your question: Unless things very recently changed, you can renew your credential at any time.

Hope this helps.

Rami is correct. The renew cycle does not change depending on when you renew. You can renew as soon as you want, but you wont be able to add new PDU's until the next cycle. For example, if you got your PMP in August 2023 and renew in July 2025, then your certification will be good until August 2029 but you will not be able to add new PDU's until your previous cycle of August 2026 ends.

As for expired certifications, I am not sure about this but I would imagine that it is not a good idea to let your certifications expire.

Just a small note: You can still add PDUs after you renew as PMI allows you to carry over 20 PDUs to your next cycle if you earned those PDUs in the last year of your current cycle and they are on top of the 60 PDUs required.

Your certification is renewed in three-year cycles. If it expires in 2 years, if you completed 60 PDUs, you can renew your PMP right away. You do not need to wait for the due date.

The new expiry date will be three years from the date of the last due date.

No. You can only start to apply PDUs once you are in your renewal cycle. So, if your PMP was valid till May 2029 you could start to accumulate then from May 2026 onwards.
