What study materials do you recommend for the new Associate in Project Management certification (CAPM)?

My PMP expired in 2019 and I wanted to get this certification as a step toward PMP re-certification.

Since you previously attained your PMP, why not just directly go for that as the benefits of getting the CAPM as a stepping stone in your situation likely wouldn't make up for the costs & effort involved?

If you are still keen on pursuing it, the following PMI document does provide a reference map between PMI publications and the ECO domains & tasks for the CAPM exam: https://www.pmi.org/-/media/pmi/documents/...-references.pdf

I agree with Kiron, since you were PMP certified, it is not mandatory that you do the CAPM in order to re-certify for the PMP and I honestly don't see the value in doing so. You can just sit for the PMP exam again, if needed, especially that the study material is more or less the same.

On another note, if your PMP did expire in 2019 and you were not able to attain the required number of PDUs for renewal at the time due to personal circumstances then I highly recommend you approach customer care, via email, phone or live chat (my recommendation), let them know why you were not able to renew it and express your interest in renewing your credential. In certain cases, if you have a valid reason as to why you were not able to renew at the time, they might accept to revive your credential and give you a few months to claim the number of PDUs needed for renewal and this way, it will save you all the cost and hassle of having to go through the whole process again - It is worth trying.

If the above didn't work and you decide to go for the PMP, then here is what I suggest you do:

1) Read through the Exam Content Outline (ECO), PMBOK 6th Edition (Including the Agile Extension as lots of questions are Agile / Hybrid based) and then read the PMBOK 7th edition (it is a small book).

2) Go through Rita Mulchay’s Exam Prep book, I think its 11th edition now, but double check. This is one of the best resources for exam preparation.

3) After you are done, purchase the Simulator Package through PM Prep Cast and practice as much as you can. This is a great simulator and resource for questions that mimic the real exam.

4) If you want a course to fulfill your 35 Hours then check Joseph Phillips on Udemy. He is a PMI ATP and great instructor or check out PMI's self-paced course in the PMI Store.

For the CAPM, if you're determined to follow that path, you can follow the same exact process and resources but instead of choosing PMP exam prep, you chose CAPM exam prep, etc.

If you check my LinkedIn posts, you will see one for the PMI CAPM and PMP Prep and all those references with their links are there.

Let us know if you have further questions - Good Luck.
