What happens if you fail to comply with a PMI audit within the prescribed time

This is not explicitly explained in the Certification Handbook so worst case it might fall under this which is documented: "Incomplete submissions will not be processed and will result in failure of the audit. If you choose not to comply with the audit, it will result in an audit failure and a one-year suspension period to apply for any of PMI’s certifications."

However, the Certification FAQs indicate that in the case of a failed audit: "The Certification Department will address further actions on a case-by-case basis"

So simple answer - it depends!

You can find all questions related to PMI Audit in the FAQ page below (Scroll to the very bottom of the page under Audit Section):

https://www.pmi.org/certifications/certification-resources/faq

One of the questions there is: What happens when the candidate decides not to complete the audit?

"If a candidate chooses not to complete the audit, it is considered a failed audit due to non-conformance. A candidate may reapply after one year. At that time, a new certification application must be submitted and payment must be submitted, and the application will be subject to a re-audit."

However, from my experience, it is a case by case basis, so I agree with Kiron: It Depends!
