AI brings on certain risks including variableness and job replacement. It would be great to understand the measures we need to put in place to mitigate it.

The job loss-related risks can be mitigated in the same manner as they have in the past for all other types of technology advancement - by re-skilling, staying current and remaining flexible.

The other risks of AI can be addressed by ensuring we continue to have SMEs who are able to validate the inputs & outputs of AI tools and putting guardrails into place to ensure AI capabilities don't cross ethical lines or put humanity into an existential threat situation.

I totally agree with Kiron. My main concern with AI is the ethical and security side of it so there should always be SME to validate all data and keep control over the AI.

First, there is not a single measure you can put into place.

Second, if you take the perspective of preserving the project management job as it is today, just get it out of your head. Many aspects of project management work are changing because of agile practices and “artificial intelligence.” Some agile methodologies have moved 44% of project management tasks to other roles or are shared with the project manager. AI offers opportunities to support or replace project management decision-making on specific PM tasks.

Thus, as Kiron and Romi have indicated, project managers need to reskill first and foremost. Then, based on the type of projects, industries, and company maturity, AI can replace or augment certain project management decisions.

Further, the types of projects that create AI systems have further ethical and project concerns. You can find many open source articles that others and I have written on the topic. (on google scholar)

But, the main answer to your question is to agree/define “accountability.” The main contribution of AI to project management is supporting project management decisions or making autonomous decisions. Thus, you should ensure clear accountability for outcomes no matter the AI solution, tool, or program used. At this stage of the AI lifecycle, you still need experience with project managers.
