Projects possess greater uncertainty than operational activities. To enable us to proceed with delivering a project, stakeholders will make assumptions about those uncertainties. Capturing and communicating those assumptions over the life of a project is important as if one or more of the assumptions made is proven to be incorrect, it could impact the project's success. This is why
assumptions analysis is a valuable tool for identifying risks.

Additionally, when reviewing plans, stakeholders will want to review the assumptions made to understand the thought process behind the plans.

In line with @Kiron, the key thing is: assumptions are source of risks. Is a key item to validate with clients/customers because those are the things that have to be ready to get the objective.

Just to add a bit, when decisions are made based on assumptions, sometimes those assumptions later prove to be wrong. That can have a negative or positive impact on the project, but by having them documented it helps identify potential changes to prior decisions and plans.

My thoughts are in-line with Kiron's. At the beginning of every project, there is always a set of assumption that we make and based on those assumption, we do our estimates, scheduling and risk assessment.

Throughout the project, we keep revisiting those assumptions frequently to ensure they still stand true because if any assumption proved to be wrong, then immediate action should be taken for course correction.
