I need to create an executive status report that's automated with a good backend/output capability. What do you use?

Jennifer -

I'm assuming you are looking to have the metrics in the report and the format/structure automated but I'd still expect you would be providing some manually entered "story" or context to explain the metrics?

Almost any report generation tool could be used for this purpose depending on what your source is for the metrics. Most PPM/EPM solutions would have canned or somewhat customizable reports and if you are capturing the data in spreadsheets then standalone report generators could be used.

Tableau is pretty good. It has some drill-down capabilities and multiple output formats.
