Lucila Dotto
PMI Team Member
Global Head of Sustainability, PMI-GPM JV Lead| PMI UK, United Kingdom

Hi, PMI Community! I am Lucila Dotto, PMI’s Global Head of Sustainability and Lead of the PMI-GPM Joint Venture.

My journey began with a dream to become a rural teacher, driven by a deep passion to create positive change through education, especially for those with fewer opportunities. Today, I work on the exciting crossroads of sustainability and project management, helping project professionals and organizations generate long-term value and think about the impact on future generations.

I love my role as it is purpose-driven and I am convinced project management can be a force for meaningful, lasting change. So let’s think about sustainability in everything we do.

Q&A with Lucila:

1.What inspired your journey into sustainability and project management — was there a defining moment or experience that changed the way you see your work?

My journey began long before I had the language for it. As a psychologist, I was always fascinated by human behaviour, what drives people to change, to care, to act differently. During my years as a Director at Universidad de San Andrés in Argentina, leading programs that shaped future leaders, I began to see that real transformation doesn’t come only from ideas, but from how we bring them to life, through projects.

Later, when I moved to London and joined KPMG, I witnessed how global organizations can influence people, systems, and societies at scale. The defining moment came when I was asked to lead their purpose reinvigoration journey globally. That’s when I realized the deep connection between purpose and action, and how project management becomes the bridge between the two.

When I joined PMI to lead the European Community, and later transitioned into sustainability, it felt like the perfect blend of everything I’d done before: community building, global strategy, purpose, and behavioural transformation, all connected through the power of projects.

2. How do you bring purpose and sustainability to life in the projects you lead or support?

For me, it starts with intention. Every project, whether it’s an internal transformation or a global initiative, has the power to create ripple effects. I always come back to one question: How will this project serve people, the planet, and our shared future?

Then comes integration, considering sustainability into every decision, from governance to design to impact measurement. Purpose becomes real when it’s visible in the way we plan, deliver, and lead.

3. What lessons have you learned from integrating sustainability principles into project management that others could benefit from?

The greatest lesson is that sustainability isn’t a “nice to have”, it’s a way of thinking. It means shifting from short-term efficiency to long-term value creation.

Another lesson is humility, realizing we’re all learning, and that collaboration across disciplines, cultures, and generations is essential. True sustainability work is collective and systemic, it requires seeing the connections between everything we do.

4. In your view, how can project professionals become true change-makers for people, planet, and prosperity?

Project professionals are natural change agents, they bridge vision and action. To truly lead for sustainability, they need to look beyond scope, schedule, and budget, and include value, impact as a measure of success.

By asking deeper questions like, “What legacy will this project leave?”, they can transform their work into a platform for positive change.

And I’m proud that PMI offers a specific certification in Sustainable Project Management, the GPM-b™, helping professionals gain the methodology and mindset to lead this transformation.

As Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

5. What advice would you give to someone who wants to make a positive impact through their projects but doesn’t know where to start?

Start by learning. Stay curious, ask questions, and seek to understand. Then, connect, join communities, find mentors, and share experiences. And finally, give back, use your skills and your projects as vehicles for change.

Every small action contributes to a larger impact.

6. How do you continue to learn, grow, and stay inspired in your sustainability journey?

I stay curious. I read widely — from psychology to systems thinking to regenerative design, and seek conversations that challenge my thinking. I also learn through nature and yoga, which keep me grounded and remind me of our interconnectedness.

But what inspires me most is witnessing others awaken to purpose, when professionals realize their daily work can shape a better world. And the PMI community is an endless source of inspiration: diverse, passionate people coming together to learn, innovate, and lead change across the globe.

Hello everyone! My name is Erica, and I’m excited to connect, collaborate, and engage with this incredible community. I earned my PMP certification in September, and am actively pursuing my next opportunity to apply my skills and passion within a dynamic new environment.

When I was a kid, I dreamed of becoming a firefighter because it meant having the chance to help people. These days, I channel that same fire, pun intended, into my projects. My experience spans various areas within the tech industry, including product lifecycle management, scaling marketing infrastructure, and fostering engagement with diverse audiences.

Among my professional accomplishments, earning my PMP certification stands out as the one I am most proud of. The experience represented significant personal and professional growth, reigniting my enthusiasm for tackling new projects and opportunities. Outside of work, a personal milestone I cherish is completing a marathon. It was one of the hardest challenges I’ve taken on, but also one of the most rewarding.

Jad DELLEL Chief Data & Sustainability Officer| Ivy Decarb
Hello everyone! Well, this introduction is long overdue. I've been a member since 2016, but I'm finally taking the time to properly introduce myself. Better late than never, right? I'm looking forward to engaging with this community.

My name is Jad Dellel. I'm a Sustainability PMP & Generative AI Leader and the founder of a consultancy focused on ESG strategy.
Here’s a bit more about me:
  1. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
--> I actually wanted to be an architect. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of designing something complex and seeing it built from the ground up. It just turns out I'm more of an "architect" for strategies and programs than for physical buildings!

  1. What are your favorite project management tools and technologies?
--> For day-to-day team alignment, I'm a big fan of Asana. In my specific field, Workiva is a must-have for robust ESG data governance. But the technology I'm most passionate about right now is Generative AI. I’m constantly exploring how to use it to streamline complex reporting (like CSRD) and help project teams move from just collecting data to making smarter strategic decisions.

  1. What drew you to the project management industry? What's kept you in it?
--> For me, it's simple: sustainability and project management go hand in hand. You just can't achieve ambitious sustainability goals—like decarbonization or building a circular economy—without rock-solid project management to turn that vision into a tangible reality. I was drawn to the field because it’s the practical engine for making an impact. Seeing that impact come to life is what keeps me here.

  1. What's your proudest accomplishment (personal or professional)?
--> This is a great question!
Professionally: I'm incredibly proud of a sustainability enablement program I designed and ran at Autodesk. We successfully turned over 1,000 employees into active sustainability ambassadors using gamification, workshops, and training. My favorite part? The program won over a key VP of Sales who was a major detractor at first. He became one of our biggest champions. It was a huge win for change management!

On a personal level: I'm proud of my writing. Since 2020, I've managed to publish 6 books focused on the intersection of sustainability, management, and—most recently—the impact of AI on our profession.

I'm here to connect with all of you and explore how we can build the next generation of projects together.
I'm looking forward to connecting!

Sustainable Regards;
Jad,

PM Consultant| CLOUD SAFE CO., LTD. New Taipei City, NWT, Taiwan
Hi everyone! I’m Ariel Chang, currently working as a Project Manager at CloudSafe Technology in Taiwan. I focus on cloud and cybersecurity projects, especially for clients in highly regulated industries like finance.
When I was growing up, I wanted to do something that combined problem-solving and communication — at different times, I imagined myself as a consultant or someone who “fixes problems” for others. In a way, project management turned out to be exactly that.
My favorite project management “tools” are actually the basics done well: clear Kanban boards, structured spreadsheets, and collaboration platforms like Google Workspace. On the technology side, I’m especially interested in cloud platforms such as AWS and Google Cloud, and I’m learning more about how AI can support risk management and project governance.
I was drawn to the project management field because I enjoy standing between business stakeholders, sales, and engineers — turning messy requirements into a clear, realistic plan and making sure we can explain our decisions in a traceable, auditable way. What keeps me here is the constant learning and the satisfaction of seeing teams feel more confident and aligned when governance is in place.
One of my proudest accomplishments is helping drive multi-cloud, security-focused projects for financial clients while also volunteering with PMI-related communities to support other project managers and PM aspirants. For me, stepping into these roles and facilitating alignment across different functions has been a big milestone in both my professional growth and personal confidence.
Looking forward to connecting with you all!
